Welcome To Grassland Safari

Initiative by Pune Forest Department

Pune Forest Division consists of twelve Forest Ranges of Indapur, Daund, Baramati, Pune, Vadgaon Maval, Paud, Shirota, Bhamburda, Bhor, Saswad, Nasarapur, and Velhe. The geographical area of the Division is 1038618.00 Ha. and the forest area within it is 128846.00 Ha. and out of that the reserved forest area is 121229.00 Ha. In India, tropical thorn forests are found in some drier areas of the Deccan Plateau. Grasslands are spread over Eastern part of Pune Forest Division comprising Daund, Saswad, Baramati and Indapur Ranges. Semi-arid savannah landscape harbours unique and threatened faunal diversity. The annual rainfall is less than 70cm. The vegetation is stunted and dominated by Acacia species that rarely reach 6 metres in height. Wild cats such as the common leopard, jungle cat, and rusty-spotted cat, as well as canids such as grey wolf, golden jackal, Indian fox, and striped hyena, live in this ecoregion.
